You will admire more than 100 works of art from various time periods and various disciplines, such as painting, goldsmiths’ work, sculpture and printmaking. From a Pre-Eyckian triptych to a contemporary art installation from the past decade. A guide will tell you all the forgotten stories, myths and anecdotes made so special by these artworks.
You can choose between three themed tours:
Masterpieces tour
For this exhibition we dug into depots, archives and private collections in search of real treasures. Which Hidden Gems are a must see? Take this tour to discover the highlights of the exhibition. Included are of course the 11 Masterpieces that have been recognised and protected because of their special archaeological, historical, cultural-historical, artistic or scientific significance.

Can you name 5 female artists from the past within 10 seconds? Not as easy as you thought? Women artists received less attention and disappeared into oblivion faster than their male colleagues, but they certainly existed. As artists, managers, models or clients, women have left their mark on art history. Discover the forgotten stories of Maaike Verhulst, Maria Faydherbe, the Van Thielen sisters and other key figures from Mechelen.
