De Garage – 28.06.2021– 29.08.2021
Hans Demeulenaere (Ostend, 1974) draws his inspiration from architecture, space and design. Rather than create something entirely new, he takes existing objects and reinterprets them in surprising ways. By deconstructing these objects and stripping them of their context, he focuses the attention on the viewing experience and calls into question our perception as visitors. His love of everyday aesthetics and the interplay between figuration and abstraction produces spirited forms, interventions and installations.
Demeulenaere’s work thrives on intensive collaborations with other artists, designers and architects. He introduces new work in De Garage with Raffaella Crispino, Emi Kodama and Ine Meganck, Leroy Meyer, Samyra Moumouh, Marc Nagtzaam, Bas van den Hurk and Jochem van Laarhoven, Kris Van Dessel, Dimitri Vangrunderbeek, Klaas Vanhee and Karel Verhoeven.
In the exhibition in Mechelen, Hans Demeulenaere unites several existing art works with new ones. For this exhibition he presents a new artist's book entitled Sammlung and shows his recent artist editions. The Doppelganger exhibition runs alongside the Een enorme seconde by Rein Dufait. Tickets for De Garage give access to both exhibitions.
